Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman's musical hit has become a standard of the repertoire. Its message, focusing on acceptance of difference across the societal spectrum is every bit as poignant today as when it was written in 1983, even if it resonates differently in the current state of the gender and identity debate today. Queer lifestyles have arrived in the middle of society - or not quite yet? -The questions of visibility and acceptance remain.
This staging of La Cage, with Alen Hodzovic as Zaza, has become a regional hit for the theater in Baden-Baden, regularly selling out and having already been renewed for a second season.
